Job description

Company Overview:

Smith Farms North is a vertically integrated microbusiness located in the heart of Minnesota's Northwoods. We cultivate premium flower and produce handcrafted solventless products under the Trail brand family, including Trail Joints, Trail Chews, and Trail Vapors. Our co-located retail storefront, Trailhead Cannabis Company, offers a rustic, welcoming consumer experience. Together, we're building a new standard in Minnesota cannabis: rooted in craft, guided by compliance, and shaped by the natural beauty of our surroundings.

We're not a corporate machine. We're a small team doing meaningful work, blending agriculture, manufacturing, and retail into something exceptional. If you're dependable, detail-oriented, and ready to contribute in a fast-moving production environment, this might be the place for you.

Position Overview:

The Post-Harvest Technician supports the day-to-day production of compliant, retail-ready cannabis products at Smith Farms North, with a primary focus on pre-roll production, flower packaging, labeling, and related post-harvest work.

This is a hands-on production role responsible for accurately preparing, weighing, assembling, packaging, and labeling cannabis products while meeting company expectations for safety, quality, cleanliness, and productivity.

The Post-Harvest Technician follows established SOPs and production priorities, maintains accurate product handling and documentation, and works collaboratively with post-harvest, cultivation, manufacturing, inventory, and compliance team members.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Responsibilities:

Pre-Roll Production

  • Prepare cannabis flower for pre-roll production, including sorting, grinding, sifting, and staging material according to SOPs
  • Operate pre-roll production equipment and hand-finish products as assigned
  • Fill, weigh, pack, twist, close, and inspect pre-rolls to meet established product specifications
  • Assemble pre-roll singles and multi-packs accurately and consistently
  • Meet daily production goals while minimizing product loss, rework, and waste

Packaging & Labeling

  • Weigh and package flower, pre-rolls, and other assigned products using approved containers and materials
  • Apply labels, batch information, tamper-evident seals, and required product identifiers accurately
  • Verify product weights, counts, labels, lot information, and package presentation before completion
  • Stage finished products and packaging supplies in an organized manner to support production priorities
  • Identify and report damaged materials, equipment issues, weight variances, labeling errors, or product quality concerns
  • Maintain clean, organized, and audit-ready production and packaging workspaces
  • Assist with other production, packaging, and post-harvest tasks based on business needs

Post-Harvest & Production Support

  • Support bucking, trimming, sorting, and preparation of dried cannabis flower as assigned
  • Handle cannabis carefully to protect product quality, potency, appearance, and traceability
  • Move product and supplies between approved work and storage areas following chain-of-custody requirements
  • Follow daily work assignments and communicate progress, delays, or material needs to the supervisor
  • Work collaboratively with team members to maintain efficient production flow and meet deadlines

Compliance & Inventory Accuracy

  • Follow all company SOPs and Minnesota cannabis regulations for product handling, packaging, labeling, storage, and waste
  • Complete production logs, weight records, counts, and other required documentation accurately and on time
  • Maintain separation and identification of batches, lots, strains, and work-in-process materials
  • Support inventory counts, product reconciliation, and audit preparation as directed
  • Immediately report product discrepancies, contamination concerns, or compliance issues to the supervisor

Quality, Safety & Sanitation

  • Inspect finished products for weight, fill, seal, label placement, appearance, and overall quality
  • Follow sanitation, personal hygiene, PPE, and cross-contamination prevention requirements
  • Clean and sanitize tools, equipment, tables, containers, and production areas before, during, and after work
  • Use equipment safely and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly
  • Contribute ideas that improve product quality, consistency, safety, or production efficiency

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Prior experience in cannabis production, packaging, food manufacturing, assembly, agriculture, or a similar environment preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform accurate weighing, counting, labeling, and recordkeeping
  • Ability to follow written SOPs, verbal instructions, production specifications, and compliance requirements
  • Ability to perform repetitive, detail-oriented work while maintaining quality and productivity
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to adjust to changing production priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and regularly bend, reach, twist, and perform repetitive hand movements; ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to ask questions when instructions or quality expectations are unclear
  • Must be 21+ and pass the required state background check
