Position Summary
The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences invites applications for a full-time 1.00 FTE, 12-month, fixed term position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Dean.

The Institutional Research Associate (Post Doc) will produce independent and creative scholarship in any aspect of physical oceanography or atmospheric sciences.

The incumbent will be paired with one or more faculty members in the Physics of the Ocean and Atmosphere (POA) discipline group, who will provide mentorship and training. In addition, the Institutional Research Associate (Post Doc) will be encouraged to seek external funding, and may serve as Principal Investigator or co-Principal Investigator as appropriate. The incumbent may also be appointed as Instructor of record to develop and/or teach a course on a subject in his/her expertise if so desired.

The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS) is an internationally recognized leader in the study of the Earth as an integrated system. It operates numerous state-of-the art laboratories and two oceanographic research vessels. The College has an annual budget of more than $50 million, with support coming from the National Science Foundation, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Aeronautics and Space Administration and other federal agencies. It has more than 100 faculty, 200 graduate students and 600 undergraduate students. Graduate programs include Masters and PhD degrees in Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences; Geology; and Geography; and a Master’s degree in Marine Resource Management. The college has undergraduate programs in Earth Sciences and Environmental Sciences, with several minors and certificate programs.

Position Duties
75% – Research and Scholarship:
Conduct independent and creative research in any aspect of physical oceanography and/or atmospheric sciences that will lead to publication in peer-reviewed journals. Present research results at appropriate national and/or international conferences of scientific organizations. Deliver seminars at Oregon State University (OSU) and other institutions.

25% – Career Development Activities:
Write and prepare proposals, mentor graduate students, participate in teaching activities, and foster external research collaborations. May serve as PI or co-PI, managing budgets or purchases on grants. As part of the mentoring plan, will be provided opportunities (as desired) to gain exposure to a variety of faculty activities including curriculum design, co-teaching or providing guest lectures in areas of expertise, faculty governance, promotion and tenure, peer review of teaching, participation in college committees, or other processes within an academic institution.

Minimum/Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Oceanography, Atmospheric Sciences, or a closely related discipline by start of employment.
• Evidence of scholarship (peer-reviewed papers).
• Excellent quantitative analytical skills (appropriate to the area of research).
• Excellent command of the English language including written and verbal communication skills.
• A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
• This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications
Experience and/or interests that complement existing POA research themes.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Lab and/or field work may be required, as determined by research activities. National and/or international travel to scientific meetings to present research results may be required.
