Job description

Overview

Assistant Professor – Oregon State University. The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, research-focused, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in Physical Oceanography. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Dean. The faculty member will develop and maintain a vigorous, externally funded research program and participate in CEOAS teaching and mentoring efforts.

Responsibilities

• 75% – Research/Scholarship: Establish and maintain a nationally and internationally recognized research program in physical oceanography, evidenced by publication of peer-reviewed work, conference proceedings, and books.
• 15% – Teaching and Advising: Mentor and advise post-doctoral investigators and graduate/undergraduate students; teach and develop high-quality undergraduate and graduate courses in physical oceanography or related areas; promote experiential learning and success of students from diverse backgrounds.
• 10% – Service: Provide service to the college, university, and broader communities; contribute to educational equity and diversity initiatives; participate in committees, reviews, and research planning and leadership activities.

Minimum/Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in ocean sciences or a related discipline by the start of employment.
• For appointment at the Associate Professor level, teaching experience, research experience, and a publications record commensurate with that rank.
• Strong scholarly potential demonstrated by a record of peer-reviewed publications and a clearly defined research agenda.
• Potential for establishing an externally funded research program, with independent formulation and articulation of compelling scientific goals and methods.
• Potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring, with clear written and spoken communication, ability to work within a team, and commitment to scientific methods and discipline.
• Proficiency in oral and written English.
• A commitment to educational equity in a multicultural setting and to advancing the participation of diverse groups and perspectives.
