Job description

Ports and Marine Project Manager

Locations: Raleigh, NC; Houston, TX; San Diego & Irvine, CA; Tampa, FL.

WSP is seeking a Ports and Marine Project Manager to work out of any of our maritime offices across the United States.

Responsibilities
  • Take responsibility for supervising staff engineers, task leads, and self‑perform calculations, preparing drawings and technical specifications.
  • Prepare technical studies and reports and guide or review the work of staff engineers.
  • Oversee calculations, cost estimates, drawings, technical specifications, and reports.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks and manage projects, tasks, and staff for marine facility projects, including cargo terminals (container, bulk, break‑bulk), federal facilities (homeporting piers, shipyards), and clients such as port authorities, DoD, private terminals, and public agencies.
  • Perform multiple‑discipline management and coordination of internal and external teams comprised of civil, structural, geotechnical, electrical, mechanical, coastal, fire protection, and architectural disciplines.
  • Prepare alternatives analysis reports and presentations for repair projects and capital improvement programs.
  • Lead review meetings, client presentations, and design charrettes.
  • Engage in business development and general marketing activities, maintain positive client relationships, and participate in the preparation of technical proposals, presentations, negotiations, and staff estimates.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • 7+ years of post‑education experience in engineering disciplines with marine, port, and coastal design experience.
  • Engineer's license required (multi‑state preferred).
  • Familiarity with maritime codes (ASCE, COPRI, etc.) and Department of Defense criteria (UFC, UFGC).
  • Competency in supervising staff using state‑of‑the‑art computer programs.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Flexibility to a variety of schedules, ability to prioritize responsibilities, and capacity to adapt quickly in a high‑pressure environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Experience with design and management of Port Authority, NAVY, or Coast Guard projects.
