Job description

Ports & Marine Project Manager

Locations: Raleigh, NC; Houston, TX; San Diego, CA; Irvine, CA; Tampa, FL.

As a Project Manager, you will lead maritime projects or groups of smaller capital projects, managing task leaders, schedules, budgets, and client expectations. You will formulate and present technical concepts during proposal development, design phases, and client presentations, and mentor and guide junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Take responsible charge for supervising the work of staff engineers, supervising task leads, and self–perform calculations and prepare drawings and technical specifications.
• Prepare technical studies and reports and guide/review the work of staff engineers.
• Perform oversight of calculations, cost estimates, drawings, technical specifications and reports.
• Perform quality assurance checks. Manage/lead projects, tasks and staff for marine facility projects across various types of cargo terminals, federal facilities, and clients.
• Perform multiple discipline management and coordination of internal and external teams comprised of civil, structural, geotechnical, electrical, mechanical, coastal, fire protection, and architecture.
• Prepare alternatives analysis reports and presentations for repair projects and capital improvement programs.
• Lead review meetings, client presentations, and design charrettes.
• Perform business development and general marketing activities. Maintain positive client relationships, and participate in preparation of technical proposals, presentations, negotiations, and staff estimates.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• 7+ years of post‑education experience in engineering discipline with marine, port, and coastal design experience.
• Engineer license required (multi‑state preferred).
• Knowledge of maritime‑related codes (ASCE, COPRI, etc.) and Department of Defense criteria.
• Proficiency in supervising staff in advanced computer programs.
• Track record of upholding workplace safety and complying with WSP’s health, safety and anti‑harassment policies.
• Flexibility to varied schedules and ability to prioritize under pressure.
• Occasional travel may be required.
• Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card (TSA background check).

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Engineering.
• Experience managing Port Authority, NAVY, or Coast Guard projects.
