Job summary

Nuveen, a TIAA company, is seeking a Performance Engineer to join our Brooklyn team and advance the accuracy, explainability, and robustness of portfolio performance across our platform.

You will partner with quant and engineering teams to analyze differences between modeled and actual returns, conduct performance attribution, and translate findings into durable updates and validation rules that support trusted reporting for millions of accounts.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3+ years of experience in investment analytics, portfolio accounting, or data engineering/analytics.
• Proficiency in both Python and SQL.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Comfortable working in fast-moving, high-accountability environments where accuracy and speed both matter.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and reconcile account-level and benchmark performance data across internal models, benchmark systems, and custodian data.
• Analyze benchmark definitions, blending logic, and drifted allocations to ensure consistency with expected outcomes.
• Build diagnostic scripts in Python and structured queries in SQL to isolate and document root causes of deviations.
• Collaborate with engineers to translate findings into long-term system updates and validation rules.
• Develop and maintain data-quality dashboards, audit trails, and investigative documentation.
• Partner with portfolio management, operations, and engineering teams to improve transparency and trust in performance reporting.

Education

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field
