Job summary

Oliver James Group is representing a client for a Senior Portfolio Manager role in Des Moines, IA. This is a broad, hands‑on position offering exposure to fixed income, derivatives, securitized products, funding, liquidity and portfolio risk.

The role combines investment decision making, trading and execution with risk management and strategic initiatives, and provides visibility to senior leadership. Relocation support is available for an in‑person opportunity.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of investment experience.
• Strong hands‑on experience across fixed income, derivatives and/or securitized products.
• Proven trading and execution experience.
• Strong understanding of liquidity management, ALM and portfolio risk.
• Experience identifying and acting on relative value opportunities.
• Comfortable working directly with broker-dealers and internal stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of hedge accounting.
• Strong technical skill set is a must: SQL, advanced Excel and VBA.
• Bloomberg proficiency.
• CFA and/or MBA preferred.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.

Currently supporting our client on a Senior Portfolio Manager opportunity in Des Moines with a well-established financial institution.

This is a broad, hands‑on seat for someone who wants exposure across fixed income, derivatives, structured products, funding, liquidity and portfolio risk rather than being tied to one specific product.

The role has a strong mix of investment decision making, trading and execution, relative value, risk management and strategic initiatives, with visibility to senior leadership.

What We’re Looking For

• 7+ years of investment experience
• Strong hands‑on experience across fixed income, derivatives and/or securitized products
• Proven trading and execution experience
