Job summary

Job description

Essential Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and as-needed cleaning of common areas, including tasks such as vacuuming, carpet extraction, mopping, waxing, buffing, spot cleaning floors, and trash collection.
  • Clean residential carpets and floors as assigned, assisting with residence preparations for new occupants.
  • Complete assigned work orders and respond to two-way radio calls for tasks, such as deliveries, spill clean-ups, flood response, item relocations, and room setups.
  • Maintain housekeeping and floor care equipment in excellent working condition, following all safety guidelines for proper use and storage.
  • Regularly update and track records in the electronic work order system, ensuring task accuracy and efficient inventory control.
  • Provide courteous, friendly responses to resident and guest questions, ensuring a positive experience.
  • Promptly report any resident complaints or concerns to the Lead Housekeeper or Director of Plant Operations for timely resolution.
  • Collaborate with housekeeping and laundry teams, utilizing cross-training to assist both departments as required.
  • Provide occasional “fill-in” support to other housekeeping areas within the community as needed.
  • Assist with snow removal and salting to ensure all walkways remain safe and accessible.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support comprehensive facility needs.
  • Proficiency with carpet extraction, floor stripping, waxing, and buffing techniques and equipment.
  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures, infection control, and universal precautions.
  • Awareness of safe chemical handling practices, with the ability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Strong verbal communication skills and a commitment to quality customer service.
  • Basic computer skills for managing electronic work orders and logging tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse team, including residents, leadership, staff, and third-party associates.
  • Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions.
  • Capacity to work independently or as part of a team, with limited supervision.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year in janitorial or floor care, preferably in a healthcare or hospitality environment.
  • High school diploma or GED is preferred, but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • An extensive amount of standing and walking, with a moderate amount of twisting, turning, stooping, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching above the head and shoulders, and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to routinely push carts with loads up to 200 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally climb ladders.
  • Ability to use equipment such as buffing machine, pressure washer, and carpet extractor.
  • Frequent use of ordinary communication, including normal levels of hearing and vision.
  • Proficient use of floor care equipment (e.g., buffers, pressure washers, carpet extractors).
