Floor Technician – Housekeeping – Willard, OH

Position Overview

Responsible for cleaning and maintaining all floors (hard, carpeted, tile) and related areas in multiple community locations. Utilizes carpet cleaners, buffer machines, and industrial vacuums to perform detailed floor work. May also serve as a housekeeper, cleaning and sanitizing resident rooms and other assigned spaces following both structured and unstructured cleaning assignments. Follows the community cleaning schedule and disposes of waste in accordance with established policies.

Responsibilities
  • Follow cleaning schedules and perform floor cleaning duties using appropriate equipment.
  • Clean and sanitize resident rooms, bathrooms, hallways, stairways, elevators, and common areas.
  • Vacuum carpets, mop, dust, strip, wax, disinfect floors, and clean walls, ceilings, furniture, windows, and mirrors.
  • Dispose of waste and infectious materials in designated containers and comply with sanitation procedures.
  • Coordinate housekeeping services with nursing staff, including isolation cleaning procedures.
  • Maintain adequate supply of housekeeping materials and report shortages or equipment issues to the supervisor.
  • Report all accidents, incidents, hazardous conditions, and equipment failures promptly.
  • Participate in safety and health training, including OSHA and CDC in‑service sessions on hazard communication, TB management, and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Adhere to fire safety policies, use required personal protective equipment, and follow infection control and universal precautions.
  • Attend departmental meetings, staff briefings, and educational classes as directed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information and knock before entering resident rooms.
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and be available for emergency call‑backs.
Safety and Sanitation
  • Follow fire safety and safety precaution procedures during all tasks.
  • Use appropriate PPE when lifting, moving heavy objects, handling hazardous chemicals, or working near potential blood or body fluid exposure.
  • Mix chemicals and disinfectants according to manufacturer instructions and MSDS guidelines.
  • Ensure work areas remain clean, safe, and free of hazardous objects.
  • Dispose of hazardous chemicals and infectious waste per established policies.
Equipment and Supply Management
  • Maintain sufficient housekeeping supplies in utility/janitorial areas.
  • Report used or malfunctioning equipment (e.g., vacuums, lights) to the supervisor promptly.
  • Assist colleagues in lifting heavy equipment and clean storage areas after use.
Resident Rights and Confidentiality
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
  • Knock before entering a resident's room.
  • Respect residents' personal and property rights.
  • Notify residents when moving personal possessions during cleaning.
Working Conditions
  • Work in all areas of the facility, moving intermittently during shifts.
  • Experience frequent interruptions and possible rescheduling of cleaning tasks.
  • Interact with residents, staff, visitors, and government agencies in all circumstances.
  • May encounter hostile or emotionally upset individuals.
  • Work beyond normal hours, including weekends, holidays, and emergency situations.
  • Exposure to infectious waste, bodily fluids, hazardous chemicals, and potential injury from falls or burns.
Education
  • Minimum of 8th‑grade education.
Experience
  • No experience required; on‑the‑job training provided.
Specific Requirements
  • Must understand and communicate in English.
  • Must follow written and oral instructions and perform tasks independently.
  • Must handle residents, staff, visitors, and public with tact and professionalism.
  • Maintain supplies, equipment, and cleanliness, and perform regular inspections of resident rooms.

  • Be open to using new methods and incorporating them into housekeeping practices.
  • May relocate to other shifts if required.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
  • Move intermittently throughout the shift, including walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Speak and write English clearly.
  • Cope with mental and emotional stress associated with the position.
  • Possess adequate sight and hearing, or use appropriate prosthetics.
  • Work independently while maintaining personal integrity and effective teamwork skills.
  • Meet general health requirements, including a medical and physical examination as specified by facility policies.
  • Assist in resident evacuation during emergencies if needed.
