S:US is seeking a dedicated grounds maintenance worker to ensure outdoor spaces are clean, safe, and presentable for tenants, staff, and visitors. The role includes routine landscaping, seasonal upkeep, and assisting with events while maintaining equipment and following safety protocols.

Ideal candidates will have a High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of maintenance experience. Weekend/evening availability and the ability to perform physical outdoor work are required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in maintenance.
  • Experience in social service or related field.
  • Residential / Crisis / 24-hour service setting experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to perform physical outdoor work and lift/carry/push/pull equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness in assigned outdoor and interior areas.
  • Maintain lawns, gardens, sidewalks and exterior spaces.

Position Overview

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Provide quality cleanliness, safety, appearance, and general upkeep of exterior grounds. This position performs routine landscaping, ground maintenance, identifies maintenance concerns, and ensures outdoor areas remain clean, safe, and presentable for tenants, staff, and visitors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain cleanliness in assigned areas within the facility. This includes but is not limited to floor care (mopping, sweeping, buffing, stripping and waxing), cleaning bathrooms, emptying trash, separating recyclables, emptying garbage, wiping windows and walls, and cleaning stairways.
  • Maintain lawns, landscaped areas, gardens, sidewalks, walkways, and other exterior areas.
  • Perform seasonal ground maintenance including; snow/ice-related support as assigned.
  • Remove litter, debris, leaves, branches, and other waste from ground.
  • Submit and complete work orders, service logs, or other documentation.
  • Order maintenance supplies as needed (Bell System), ordering cleaning supplies, paper supplies, lightbulbs, garbage bags, etc., and maintaining biweekly inventory.
  • Assist Staff with special events by setting the chairs and tables up for use making sure the area is clean and safe for
  • Maintain building maintenance tools and machinery to ensure that all items are in good working condition.
  • Assist in moving and storing program supplies, office furniture, office equipment, dorm furniture, consumer belongings, and other items in and around the facility when and where appropriate.

  • Attend staff meetings, group supervision, and training as assigned and required.
  • Responds to consumer needs promptly, accurately and with courtesy and respect.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and appropriate manner to outside resources.
  • Opening and closing the park in accordance with posted operating hours.
  • Unlocking and securing entrance gates.
  • Conducting routine inspections of park grounds, equipment, landscaping, and amenities.
  • Collecting litter and removing trash.
  • Maintaining pathways, seating areas, and other hardscape elements.
  • Monitoring and maintaining landscaped areas, including watering, weeding, pruning, mulching, and seasonal plant care.
  • Monitoring and maintaining the irrigation system, including coordinating repairs when necessary.
  • Identifying and reporting maintenance, safety, or security concerns.
  • Addressing minor repairs and coordinating larger repairs with management and outside contractors as needed.
  • Responding to weather-related conditions and assisting with seasonal maintenance activities.
  • Ensuring that the park remains welcoming, clean, and in good condition for public use.
  • Supports the mission and values of SUS and draws attention to behavior that undermines group effectiveness or is inconsistent with core values

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in maintenance
  • knowledge/experience working in the social service or related field
  • Experience working within a residential / Crisis / 24-hour service setting
  • Basic computer skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance tools and basic repairs
  • Able to work weekends and evenings as needed
  • Ability to perform physical work outdoors and in varied weather conditions
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and materials as required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

    • Bilingual English/Spanish speaking a plus
