Job summary

Ontario Trillium Foundation is seeking a dedicated Porter to keep our restaurant clean, organized, and safe, supporting kitchen, dining, and bar teams to ensure smooth daily operations. The role involves cleaning all areas, restocking supplies, assisting with deliveries, and addressing spills promptly while complying with health and safety regulations.

Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Qualifications

• Previous porter/janitorial experience is not required.
• Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning equipment and products.
• Strong attention to detail and a team-oriented attitude.
• Able to stand/walk for 8–10 hours per shift.
• Able to lift/carry 25–50 pounds.
• Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize all areas of the restaurant (kitchen, dining room, bar, restrooms, exterior).
• Sweep, mop, and empty trash to maintain a tidy environment.
• Wash, dry, and restock smallwares and equipment as needed.
• Perform deep-cleaning tasks (floors, vents, storage areas).
• Monitor and restock supplies (napkins, cleaning products, paper goods).
• Assist with unloading and organizing deliveries; label and store items.
• Notify management of shortages or repairs needed.
• Assist with dishwashing and equipment cleaning during peak hours.
• Maintain a clean and organized dish area for efficient operations.
• Support kitchen staff by ensuring clean tools, plates, and utensils are available.
• Follow health, safety, and sanitation regulations; address spills promptly.
• Report maintenance or repair needs to management immediately.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

The Porter is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and functionality of the restaurant to ensure smooth daily operations. Duties & Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Clean and sanitize all areas of the restaurant, including the kitchen, dining room, bar, restrooms, and exterior spaces.
• Regularly sweep, mop, and empty trash bins to maintain a tidy environment.
• Wash, dry, and restock smallwares, utensils, and equipment as needed.
• Perform deep-cleaning tasks such as scrubbing floors, cleaning vents, and organizing storage areas.
• Monitor and restock supplies, including napkins, cleaning products, paper goods, and other necessities.
• Assist in unloading and organizing deliveries, ensuring items are properly labeled and stored.
• Notify management of any shortages or equipment that requires repair.
• Assist with dishwashing and equipment cleaning during peak hours.
• Maintain a clean and organized dish area to facilitate efficient operations.
• Support kitchen staff by ensuring clean tools, plates, and utensils are available at all times.
• Follow all health, safety, and sanitation regulations to ensure a safe environment for guests and staff.
• Promptly address spills, hazards, or broken equipment to minimize risks.
• Report maintenance or repair needs to management immediately.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

• Previous experience in a porter, janitorial, or cleaning role preferred, but not required.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic knowledge of cleaning equipment and products.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness.
• Team-oriented attitude with a willingness to assist others as needed.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours per shift).
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25–50 pounds.
• Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive movements in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work in varying conditions, including heat, cold, and noise.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
