Job description

Overview

The Porter is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene throughout the facility by performing routine cleaning, organization, and general upkeep. This includes cleaning various areas and departments such as cold food, materials, assembly, dish room, warehouse, maintenance areas, building exterior and all other common areas within our facility. The Porter plays a key role in ensuring a clean, well-maintained environment while adhering to company policies and regulatory standards, including USDA, FDA, and HACCP guidelines.

Responsibilities

Facility Cleaning & Maintenance:

  • Sweep, mop, and clean floors in all designated areas, including hallways, lobbies, restrooms, cafeteria, offices, stairwells, and production areas, ensuring that all floor types are properly maintained to meet cleanliness standards.
  • Clean and sanitize furniture, shelves, work surfaces, walls, baseboards, and all high-touch areas such as light switches, door handles, and railings to prevent the build-up of dust, dirt, and debris.
  • Clean and sanitize walls, partitions, and other vertical surfaces, removing grease, stains, and scuff marks.
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms thoroughly, including toilets/urinals, sinks, mirrors, and countertops.
  • Restock hand wash station supplies, such as soap, hand sanitizer, paper towels, ensuring they are adequately stocked.
  • Remove trash and replace liners in all waste receptacles, ensuring proper disposal of waste materials and adherence to recycling guidelines. Regularly check bins for overflows and/or odors.
  • Clean glass surfaces, including windows and mirrors.
  • Clean walls, railings, stairwells, and door frames, focusing on frequently touched surfaces and areas prone to dirt accumulation. Wipe down handrails and stair edges.
  • Clean and sanitize pipes, vents, and door air curtains ensuring they remain free from dirt, dust, grease, and allergens.
  • Wipe down and sanitize plastic gondolas & cleaning bins, and all equipment used for transporting waste ensuring they are free from contamination and odors after each use.
  • Ensure proper organization of cleaning supplies in janitorial closets and stations, keeping mops, brooms, cleaning chemicals, and rags neatly stored.
  • Use appropriate cleaning agents and disinfectants for different surfaces, such as floor cleaners, degreasers, and sanitizer sprays.
  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers.
  • Ensure the completion of cleaning schedules tasks and signing off on each task performed to verify compliance with cleanliness standards.

Hygiene & Safety Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling chemicals, and adhere to all relevant safety guidelines.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures to maintain a hygienic environment.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards for workplace cleanliness and safety.
  • Collect and dispose of waste and recyclables in accordance with facility guidelines.
  • Ensure proper segregation of recyclable materials.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant work environment.
  • Willingness to participate in safety training and adhere to company safety policies.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in a 24/7 facility, with the ability to adapt to changing schedules based on operational needs and peak periods.
  • Must be able to work around various chemicals and follow prescribed use in a safe manner
  • Overtime may be required based on operational needs, with the potential for extended hours during busy periods or emergencies.
