Pye-Barker Fire & Safety is seeking a Portables Technician to perform inspections, maintenance, and servicing of portable fire protection equipment with minimal supervision. The role emphasizes safety, documentation, and customer communication across commercial, industrial, and construction sites.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in the fire and life safety industry, high school diploma, and a drive for independent work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3+ years of experience in fire and life safety industry as apprentice or technician.
• NICET Level I or above preferred.
• Ability to work independently and manage assigned tasks.
• Strong understanding of portable fire protection equipment and applicable codes.
• Must have a clean driving record and active driver's license (if driving role).

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and servicing of portable fire extinguishers and related equipment independently.
• Complete standard service calls without direct supervision while ensuring quality and compliance.
• Conduct annual inspections, maintenance, and assist with testing as required.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA standards, local codes, and company procedures.
• Accurately document services performed, including tagging and reporting.
• Identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to customers and supervisors.
• Maintain and properly use tools, equipment, and service vehicles.
• Communicate effectively with customers, team members, and supervisors regarding job status and findings.
• Maintain a high level of safety awareness and follow all company safety policies and procedures.
• Perform work in commercial, industrial, and construction environments.
• Use hand tools and testing equipment.
• Travel to job sites as required.
• Other duties as assigned by management.
