PORT ENGINEER
Patriot Maritime, a leading maritime contractor to the U.S. Government, is seeking Port Engineers to support Military Sealift Command (MSC) and our commercial fleet. Headquartered in Concord, CA, Patriot manages and operates vessels.
An active SECRET security clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
Responsibilities & Authorities:
- Oversee the safe and economical operation of assigned vessels, managing operational, technical, safety issues, and crew-related matters.
- Manage daily vessel operations in accordance with Safety and Quality Management standards.
- Monitor incidents and reports via the Docmap program, providing comments, resolutions, and corrective actions, and ensuring timely closure within SQMS.
- Review vessel class reports for deficiencies and compliance with relevant requirements.
- Work with vessel personnel to ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and standards.
- Participate in the Incident Response Team for vessel casualties.
- Conduct accident or near-miss investigations.
- Maintain familiarity with company safety programs and complete required safety checklists.
- Coordinate with the Chief Engineer on vendor reports and inspections, and manage preventive maintenance records in SAMM.
- Track outstanding USCG deficiencies and Port State Control findings, reporting progress accordingly.
Qualifications:
- Minimum three years' experience as a Port Engineer, managing and negotiating shipyard dry-dock projects over $3 million.
- At least four years' experience aboard government or commercial ships of 4,000 HP or more, in roles such as Chief Engineer or First Assistant Engineer.
- Seven or more years of combined experience, including:
- Engineering degree (Marine Engineer, Marine Architecture, Mechanical Engineering), with Bachelor's counting as three years, Master's as one additional year, and engineering degrees up to four years total experience.
- Management experience in shipyard or military roles similar to a Port Engineer.
- Strong communication skills, project management, decision-making, problem-solving, and strategic planning abilities.
- Good time management skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, MS 360, and SharePoint.
- Active SECRET clearance or ability to obtain one.
- Ability to travel up to 15% annually, and up to 50% during shipyard periods.
