PORT ENGINEER
Patriot Maritime is a leading maritime contractor to the U.S. Government, managing and operating vessels. Headquartered in Concord, CA, Patriot is seeking Port Engineers to meet contract requirements for Military Sealift Command (MSC) and our commercial fleet.
Security Clearance: An active SECRET level security clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
Responsibilities & Authorities:
- Oversee the safe and economical operation of assigned vessels and manage costs effectively.
- Handle daily vessel-related issues, including operational, technical support, safety, and crew management.
- Ensure daily operations comply with Safety and Quality Management standards.
- Monitor incident reports via the Docmap program, providing comments, resolutions, and corrective actions, and close incidents within specified response times.
- Review vessel class reports for deficiencies and compliance with relevant requirements.
- Work with vessel personnel to ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and performance standards.
- Participate as a member of the Incident Response Team (IRT) for vessel casualties.
- Conduct accident or near-miss investigations.
- Maintain familiarity with the company’s Employee Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and complete necessary safety checklists prior to work.
- Coordinate with the Chief Engineer to review and sign off on vendor service reports and conduct physical reviews when possible. The Port Engineer may assume this responsibility when necessary.
- Inspect preventive maintenance records and manage Planned Maintenance Industrial Assist (PMIA) in SAMM.
- Monitor outstanding USCG 835 deficiencies and Port State Control findings, reporting current status and progress.
Qualifications:
- Minimum three years' experience as a Port Engineer, including managing and negotiating at least two shipyard dry-docking projects valued over three million dollars. Experience in a shipyard or military service with similar duties is applicable.
- At least four years’ experience aboard government or commercial ocean-going ships of 4,000 HP or more, in roles such as Chief Engineer or First Assistant Engineer.
- Seven or more years of total experience, including:
- An engineering degree (e.g., Marine Engineer, Marine Architecture, Mechanical Engineering).
- A Bachelor's Degree counts as three years of experience; a Master’s Degree or higher adds an additional year.
- Experience in shipyard management or military duties similar to a Port Engineer.
