Job summary

Washington State Ferries seeks a Port Captain to provide operational leadership that supports safe, reliable, and efficient ferry service across Puget Sound. You will oversee deck personnel, coordinate with shoreside teams, and drive regulatory compliance and crew readiness to maintain a dependable transportation system.

Qualifications

• Extensive marine supervisory experience with vessel crews or shoreside personnel.
• Strong understanding of vessel operations, safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to analyze complex operational issues and recommend actions.

Responsibilities

• Provide operational oversight to deck personnel for safe, reliable fleet operations.
• Serve as liaison between vessel operations and shoreside management to resolve issues.
• Conduct vessel inspections for seaworthiness and regulatory compliance.
• Oversee training, certification, and evaluations in coordination with Crew Resource Managers.
• Coordinate maintenance, USCG/CFR compliance, and bridge navigation equipment.
