Job summary

Foss Maritime in Tacoma, WA seeks an experienced offshore supervision leader to direct crew operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage budgets for vessel support across US coasts. You will partner with customers, pilots, vendors, and shoreside teams to deliver safe, efficient towing and barge operations.

The role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and the ability to enforce policies while maintaining safety culture and core values across the fleet.

Qualifications

• Strong maritime background with day-to-day vessel operations understanding.
• Ability to interpret government regulations related to vessel manning, maintenance, safety, and towing operations.
• Finance basics: cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting for multi-budget oversight.
• Proficient written and oral communications for reports, letters, and procedures.
• Strong interpersonal skills to work with customers, peers, superiors, and unions.
• Team player with ability to exercise authority and coach others.
• Flexible, adaptable, and able to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
• Ability to understand English clearly and operate with good sensory perception (vision/hearing).
• Knowledge of labor law, contract negotiation, and labor relations.

Responsibilities

• Directs and supervises offshore marine employees.
• Interfaces with customers, marine and shoreside staff, vendors, pilots, and regulators.
• Develops, implements, and enforces policies and procedures.
• Oversees hiring, crewing, promotions, and training for marine personnel.
• Audits vessel logs and approves overtime; assists with fleet scheduling.
• Ensures compliance with company SMS and regulatory requirements.
• Prepares budgets and manages vessel supply and crew costs.
• Leads labor contract negotiations and regional objectives.
• Directs performance reviews and leadership development for staff.
