Job summary

EvolDir, based in Nahant, MA, seeks a Bioinformatician to join the Marine Macrogenomics consortium. You will develop and maintain scalable pipelines for large-scale genomic data, focusing on short-read alignment and population-level inference, collaborating with wet-lab and computational teams.

The role requires a Master’s in a related field and 2–5 years of hands-on bioinformatics experience, with proficiency in BWA/STAR, SAMtools/GATK, Snakemake or Nextflow, and scripting in Python/R.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in biology, ecology and evolution, bioinformatics, computational biology, genetics, or related field.
• 2–5 years of hands-on bioinformatics experience with genomics.
• Proficiency with short-read aligners (BWA, Bowtie2, STAR).
• Experience with SAMtools, GATK, Picard.
• Experience with pipeline tools (Snakemake/Nextflow).
• Strong scripting in Python, R, Bash; Unix/Linux comfort.
• Experience with HPC/HTC environments and schedulers (SLURM/HTCondor).
• Experience using APIs for data transfer or large data movement.
• Familiarity with version control and containerization (Git, Docker/Singularity).
• Track record of contributing to published research.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable bioinformatics pipelines across population genomic datasets.
• Align short-read data to reference genomes and assess mapping quality.
• Perform variant calling, filtering, and QC in population genomics.
• Document workflows for reproducibility and publication.
• Develop tutorials and assist with website projects; collate public data with metadata.
• Collaborate with wet-lab and computational team members to meet data standards.
