Compensation: Full Pay Range $16.82 - $21.65 per hour. The hiring range extends from the minimum up to 80% of the range.

Job Summary

Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of the swimming pool environment and closely monitoring and potentially rescuing swimmers. They provide customer service to visiting patrons and exercise mature judgment and decision‑making skills while on‑duty.

• Seasonal Limited Hours (March – September) – < 11 months, <30 hours/week. No medical, dental, or vision insurance. Benefits include sick time‑off, wellness program, EcoPass for transit, recreation pass, and retirement plans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as a lifeguard and primary responsibility.
• Monitor patrons in the water and on deck to minimize injury.
• Act as a dispatcher at the top of elevated waterslides as needed.
• Educate, explain, and enforce facility regulations, policies, and procedures to patrons.
• Prevent accidents, remain calm in emergency situations, work with little or no supervision.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co‑workers, and facility guests.
• Administer emergency care to patrons in need of assistance in and out of the water.
• Demonstrate proactive approach toward facility cleanliness and maintenance.
• Perform basic front office and customer service duties.
• Attend all mandatory pre‑season and monthly in‑service trainings.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to swim 300 yards, retrieve a 10‑lb brick from the bottom in 10 feet, and tread water for two minutes with no hands.
• Demonstrate life‑saving skills and water competency prior to employment; may be tested at any time during employment.
• Strong communication skills.
• Must be at least 16 years of age to dispatch water slides.
• Maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.

Preferred Qualifications

• Administering Emergency Oxygen certification (or equivalent training).

Required Education and Experience

• Current American Red Cross certifications (or equivalent) in Lifeguarding.
• Current American Red Cross certifications (or equivalent) in First Aid.
• Current American Red Cross certifications (or equivalent) in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.

Working Conditions and Requirements

• Physical and mental effort: Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks in an aquatics environment; stand, walk, kneel; hand/eye coordination; vision for reading and recording; speech and hearing for communication.
• Work environment: Indoor and outdoor environments, often impacted by chemical odors, weather, and unpredictable conditions.
• Machines and equipment: Various aquatics supplies, filtration systems, standard office equipment (PC, calculator, copy/fax machine); lift up to 50 lbs.
