Job summary

Tampa General Hospital seeks a patient transport team member to move patients to and from Radiology via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed. You will escort ambulatory patients as needed and perform other duties per the department’s needs.

Responsibilities include verifying patient identity, selecting proper transport devices, and maintaining safety and empathy when interacting with patients and staff. This role supports smooth exam flow and ensures compassionate care across all interactions.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.

Responsibilities

• Identifies patients by name and ID band (uses two identifiers).
• Selects appropriate transport device for patients of various ages.
• Promotes quality guest relations with internal and external customers.
• Handles telephone communication professionally and accurately.
• Maintains patient dignity and empathy while coordinating care with the team.
• Ensures safe handling of IVs, poles, Foley catheters and other equipment during transport.
• Assists patients with special needs and supports those using respiratory equipment.
• Coordinates with technologists and nurses to align transport with exam timing.

Essential Functions

• Identifies patients by name and ID band (let nurse know if no ID band). Uses 2 identifiers
• Selects proper type of transporting device that suits the needs of patients (infants, children,adolescent, adult and geriatric).
• Promotes quality guest relations by identifying both internal and external customers;acknowledging customers promptly; and, using expressions that express respect,understanding, and enhance self-esteem.
• Creates a positive impression through effective use of telephone skills such as answering thephone by the third ring, identification of self and department, listening attentively, personalizingthe conversation and verifying information.
• Creates a supportive climate for customers by allowing customers to express themselves,addressing their concerns as being real and encouraging two-way communication.
• Promotes therapeutic interaction with customers by identifying behaviors resulting fromdissatisfaction, then, allowing customers to respond openly, showing empathy and discussingoptions.
• Careful handling of IV’s and poles, Foleys, tubes while moving and/or transporting patients.
• Proper knowledge of handling patients with special needs.
• Patients on respirators will be transported with the assistance of the patient’s nurse andrespiratory tech
• Coordinates with technologists/nurses timing issues related to exam time.
