Job summary

Southern Company Services in Birmingham, AL, is seeking a qualified analyst to support Intercompany Interchange Contract settlements and related accounting processes. You will analyze operational, contractual, and financial data to ensure accurate settlements and reporting, working with multiple groups across Commercial Operations and Regulatory teams.

Qualified candidates bring a strong analytical background, experience with large data sets, and proficiency in Excel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, statistics, CS, data analytics, finance, accounting, economics, business, or related discipline.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data integrity with complex calculations and large data sets.
• Ability to analyze large volumes of information, identify trends, and develop meaningful conclusions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other business software applications.

Responsibilities

• Support accurate administration and settlement of the Intercompany Interchange Contract (IIC) including calculations, documentation, reporting, and issue resolution.
• Analyze operational, contractual, and financial data used in IIC administration and cost/benefit allocation.
• Develop and maintain understanding of methodologies and processes for Pool Settlement and related Commercial Operations activities.
• Perform analytical review of settlement results and investigate variances to identify root causes and ensure accuracy.
• Provide analytical and settlement support for customer settlement processes and load-related activities.
• Partner with multiple organizations to resolve complex settlement issues and support strategic initiatives.
• Support monthly accounting close activities, reconciliations, variance analysis, financial reporting, and regulatory reporting.
• Develop and maintain analytical tools, settlement applications, reports, dashboards, and automated processes.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen internal controls, improve data quality, streamline processes, and leverage technology.
• Support system enhancements, testing, process improvements, and special projects affecting settlement, accounting, and reporting.
