Job summary

YMCA Newark and Vicinity is seeking an entry-level Lifeguard to supervise pool areas, ensure patron safety, and promote a positive, engaging environment. You will be responsible for surveillance, responding to incidents with trained lifeguarding skills, and completing required documentation.

Ideal candidates are at least 16 years old, hold CPR/First Aid/AED certifications, and have 1+ year lifeguarding experience or equivalent training.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• CPR, First Aid and AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications required (Red Cross or YMCA).
• 1+ year lifeguarding experience or equivalent training.

Responsibilities

• Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
• Respond to illnesses and injuries with Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR until EMS arrives.
• Maintain professional appearance and follow uniform and safety equipment rules.
• Conduct patron swim tests to assess ability to swim independently.
• Complete required documents and/or reports.
• Foster positive relationships with pool patrons and staff.
• Enforce safety rules and maintain a clean pool, deck, office, and locker rooms.
• Perform equipment checks and ensure supplies are available.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
