The YMCA OF GREATE MONMOUTH COUNTY in Freehold, NJ is seeking a part-time lifeguard to supervise and safeguard the pool area, ensuring member safety and a positive environment. Required certifications include YMCA or American Red Cross lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, and AED; must be at least 15 years old.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Maintains active surveillance of the pool area and stays on duty until relieved.
  • Enforces safety rules and responds to emergencies per YMCA procedures.
  • Arrives on schedule, in proper lifeguard attire and ready for duty.
  • Keeps pool and deck areas clean and reports hazards as required.
  • Completes trainings and attends staff meetings per YMCA standards.
  • Maintains accurate chemical testing records and logs.

This position is for the Freehold Family YMCA. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the pool deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains active surveillance of the pool area and remain on duty and in an alert state until properly relieved from duty.
  • Knows, reviews, implements, and discusses all safety rules, policies, and emergency procedures with all members and rentals. Responds to emergency or unsafe situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and completes related reports as required.
  • Arrive at your designated location at scheduled time, dressed appropriately,and appropriate lifeguard attire (lifeguard shirt, bathing suit, easily removed foot gear, water bottle, and sunscreen).
  • Adhere to all program and CDC standards including safety and cleanliness; sanitizing areas prior to use and after use; assist in maintaining equipment and supplies, and returning to proper storage spaces after each usage.
  • Completes mandatory staff trainings and attends all staff meetings (in-person & online). Attends monthly in-service trainings in accordance with YMCA standards, and the state Health Department Code.
  • Checks pool, pool deck, and equipment for hazardous conditions upon arrival and departure, and maintains cleanliness. Ensures that all appropriate equipment and supplies are available as needed.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth. Complete required abuse risk management training. Follow mandated abuse reporting procedures, including reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Performs chemical testing when not actively guarding and maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and the state Health Department code. Reports any discrepancies with chemical readings to immediate supervisor.
  • Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants, and other staff.
Qualifications
  • Minimum age of 15.
  • Certifications: Current YMCA, American Red Cross, or equivalent accepted by the Bathing Code Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
