Job summary

The YMCA of Southwest Florida is seeking a Lifeguard to ensure the safety of all participants around the YMCA pool. You will monitor the pool area, respond to emergencies, and maintain a clean, safe environment following YMCA policies.

You will also test water chemistry, enforce proper swim attire, and document incidents as required. Candidates must be 16+, pass background checks, and hold a current lifeguard certification.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Adhere to drug/alcohol/smoke free workplace policy.
• Sound decision making skills.
• Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA, Red Cross, or other nationally recognized lifeguarding program standards.
• Professional appearance and attitude.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area and review emergency procedures.
• Respond immediately to emergencies following YMCA policies and complete required reports.
• Maintain safe, clean pool deck and surrounding areas.
• Foster positive relationships with members, participants and staff.
• Ensure proper swim attire and footwear are worn; test new swimmers and assign flotation devices as needed.
• Arrange replacement guards and complete related paperwork if unable to work.
• Perform regular pool and equipment checks; report maintenance concerns to the Aquatics Director.
• Conduct chemical testing at scheduled times and take appropriate action.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; manage timekeeping and corrections as needed.
• Uphold all staff safety requirements and cleaning protocols throughout the day.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Supervisor.
