Job summary

YMCA of Southwest Florida is seeking a lifeguard to ensure the safety of all participants in and around the YMCA pool under supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator/Director.

The candidate will maintain surveillance, follow safety procedures, keep accurate records, and uphold cleanliness and professional standards throughout the facility. Certification and background checks are required.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Must pass Florida background check and YMCA policy checks.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Adhere to drug/alcohol/smoke-free workplace policy.
• Lifeguard skills per YMCA/Red Cross standards.
• Professional appearance and attitude.

Responsibilities

• Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area.
• Responds to emergencies per YMCA policies and completes reports.
• Keeps deck and equipment clean and in good condition.
• Tests pool chemistry and takes appropriate action.
• Finds a replacement guard when unavailable and completes paperwork.
• Attends staff meetings and required trainings.
