Qualifications

  • Provisional: Bachelor’s degree plus 27 graduate quarter hours and active pursuit of a master’s or doctorate.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Communication classes.
  • Prepare and develop materials for classes using approved outcomes.
  • Complete administrative tasks: assign/grade work, communicate with students, maintain records.
  • Stay current in subject area and educational technology for professional growth.
  • Provide consistent out-of-class contact with students.
  • Promote the college mission and inclusivity.
  • Connect students with college support services to aid success.
  • Work with diverse students and staff and foster equity.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and team members.
  • Participate in department and advisory meetings as assigned.

Job Summary

This posting is for a pooled position. Application submissions for “[ POOL ]” positions are accepted on an ongoing basis to ensure a continuous and ready pool of qualified candidates for immediate review when the need arises. If/when a position becomes available, the College will review applications from this pool, and interview candidates whose qualifications best match the specific opening.

Teach core Communication courses.

Essential Duties
  1. Teach Communication classes.
  2. Prepare and develop materials for classes utilizing approvedcourse outcomes in a variety of teaching modalities. Depending onthe course assignment, you may be asked to use a curriculumdeveloped by the department.
  3. Complete all administrative tasks associated with teaching acourse: assign and grade student work, establish reasonablecommunication with students, report student attainment of courseoutcomes, maintain student records, comply with college policiesand processes related to teaching workload.
  4. Keep abreast of development in subject area, educationaltechnology, innovative teaching techniques, and continuously strivefor professional improvement.
  5. Establish and maintain opportunities for reasonable andconsistent out-of-class contact with students.
  6. Exemplify and promote the mission of LBCC.
  7. Connect students to college support services and resources to promote student success and retention. Maintain reasonable communication with college support services to this end.
  8. Work effectively with students and staff of various culturaland socioeconomic backgrounds and ages. Promote both a classroomenvironment and a curriculum of equity and inclusivity.
  9. Interact with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as part of ateam.
  10. Participate as assigned in occasional department and advisorymeetings.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Requires the ability to communicate with staff and students. Work is performed in a classroom setting with minimal exposure to safety or health hazards.

Education and Experience

Master’s degree in Communication Studies or related field, OR amaster’s degree in another field and a minimum of 27 graduatequarter (or 18 semester) hours in the primary field to be taught;or equivalency.

Salary and Compensation Information

Courses are paid on a per-credit basis. New Part-time Faculty begin at Step 1 of the pay scale, with steps being “rolled” once per term, if eligible.
