Job summary

Tampa General Hospital is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist pharmacists with preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, and keeping records. Work is performed under supervision of a registered pharmacist and not beyond legal scope.

Responsibilities include accurate dose preparation (including IV admixtures), timely delivery to patient care areas, and active inventory management across the department.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Registered Pharmacy Technician issued by Florida is required.
• Two years of experience in a hospital/health system is required.
• One year of prior pharmacy technician experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Accurately prepares and distributes all doses of medications under pharmacist verification, including parenteral doses.
• Expedites delivery of medications and related products to defined patient care areas.
• Maintains drug inventories and associated records within the department and care areas.
• Keeps logs and documents such as medication charges and delivery/restock records.

Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing drugs, maintaining the drug inventory and maintenance of records. Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.

Essential Functions

• Accurately prepares & distributes all doses of medication (subject to verification of their complete and accurate preparation by a pharmacist prior to distribution), including parenteral doses (i.e., IV admixtures, chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition, etc)
• Expediently delivers medications and related products & supplies to defined patient care areas/ancillary areas according to the established schedules and assures their appropriate storage (e.g., refrigerator, etc)
• Actively assists in maintaining drug inventories both within the Department and at defined patient care areas (including code cart restocking, restocking of automated dispensing cabinets, checking for outdated inventory, packaging/repackaging & extemporaneous compounding, etc)
• Accurately maintains required records, logs & other documents (e.g., medication charges/credits, delivery & re-stock records
