Job summary

Summit Sleep Services in Knoxville, TN seeks a Polysomnography Tech (PRN) to support overnight testing from 7p to 7a. This role involves calibrating and maintaining PSG equipment, preparing patients, and collecting data for accurate scoring under physician supervision.

The ideal candidate is RPSGT, TN licensed, CPR certified, with 1 year of experience in polysomnography and knowledge of CPAP/BiLevel titration and related procedures.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved polysomnography technical program or ASTEP program.
  • RPSGT certification through BRPT and Tennessee state licensure required.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • One year experience as a registered polysomnographic technologist preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Calibrates and maintains polysomnography equipment and troubleshoots devices.
  • Collects patient data and determines testing parameters with the physician or director.
  • Pre- and post-study documentation and patient preparation for testing.
  • Applies monitoring electrodes and conducts data acquisition for overnight studies.
  • Scores sleep stages and events and generates reports; ensures data integrity.

Description

Summit Sleep Services is recruiting for a Polysomnography Tech. This is a PRN opporutnity 7p-7a.

Examples of Duties (List does not include all duties assigned)

  • Perform appropriate equipment calibrations and maintenance as needed on polysomnographic equipment to ensure proper functioning with strong ability to
    troubleshoot all devices.
  • Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs and determine final testing parameters/protocol in
    conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and the sleep lab protocols.
  • Completes pre and post study forms for collection of patient data for chart.
  • Orients patient to sleep lab environment and communicates testing procedures, allocating time for patient questions.
  • Adheres to all company policies, including the Corporate Compliance Plan.
  • Adheres to all sleep lab departmental policy and procedures.
  • Completes patient preparation for testing including; chart review and documentation, computer analysis of sleep study data, hook-up procedures for setup and clean up processes.
  • Independently applies monitoring electrodes and other required devices on at least two patients per night according to the accepted published standards; appropriate
    impedance checks on devices for quality assurance before recording begins.
  • Follows procedural protocols for diagnostic PSG, CPAP and BiLevel titration PSG, split PSG, MSLT, MWT, parasomnia PSG, oxygen titration PSG to ensure collection
    of appropriate data.
  • Follows appropriate “lights-out” procedures to establish and document baseline values.
  • Follows appropriate “lights-on” procedures to verify integrity of collected data.
  • Performs positive airway pressure mask fitting with various applications for patient selection.
  • Performs polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Documents routine technical observations during recording including, sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure and other significant events in order to
    facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
  • Implements appropriate interventions as necessary to include but not limited to; patient safety, therapeutic intervention such as CPAP or BiLevel, oxygen
    administration; and technical quality interventions for integrity of data.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills to patient, co-workers, management and medical director of program.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of the adolescent, adult
    and geriatric patient population.
  • Demonstrates scoring for sleep/wake stages; clinical events and generates accurate reports by tabulating clinical event data.
  • Complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality standards as set forth by government regulatory standards.
  • May be assigned light clerical duties as needed to include but not limited to; filing, chart preparation, and patient scheduling.
  • Actively participates in site-level Quality Improvement Activities. Each employee will contribute to the continual evaluation site performance as well as the
    implementation and measurement of improvement activities that increase the
    quality of care provided to patients.
  • Performs related tasks as requested by supervisor.

Education

Graduate of an approved polysomnography technical program or ASTEP program.

Experience

One year experience as a registered polysomnographic technologist preferred.

Certification/License

Must be RPSGT through BRPT AND state licensed in Tennessee. Must have current CPR certification.
