Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health's Sleep Lab is seeking a Polysomnographic Technologist to work nights at the Cranford facility. The role offers full-time, hourly pay and a focus on comprehensive sleep studies under supervision of the Medical Director and Sleep services leadership.

Requirements include a New Jersey State License as a Polysomnographic Technologist and/or Respiratory Therapist, BLS, and at least one year of sleep technologist experience.

Qualifications

  • Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Required: At least one year experience as a sleep technologist.
  • Preferred: CCSH - Certification in Clinical Sleep Health.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.
  • Perform routine equipment care and maintenance and inventory evaluation.
  • Follow HIPAA and privacy policies.
  • Respond to sleep patients procedural-related inquiries by providing education using sleep center protocols.
  • Adhere to sleep center policies and procedures.
  • Assist the medical director, clinical director and/or manager in sleep center operations.
  • Perform sleep studies for pediatric patients starting at 18 months and older, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Demonstrate proper placement of leads and wires with 10-20 setup.
  • Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot sleep equipment including CPAP/BIPAP devices during studies.
  • Titrate CPAP/BIPAP per AASM guidelines.
  • Document technician notes every half hour; score studies per AASM.
  • Process charges; coordinate dictation, final reports, archiving and mailing.
  • Maintain inventory control; complete yearly CME; participate in PI; ensure inter-scorer reliability.

Education

Job Overview:

The Polysomnographic Technologist - Sleep Technologist works under the general supervision of the Medical Director and the Administrative Director of Pulmonary & Sleep services to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep credentialed in sleep technology and can provide oversight of other sleep center staff.


Qualifications:

Required:



  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • At least one-year experience as a sleep technologist


Preferred:



  • Qualification to obtain or possession of the CCSH - Certification in Clinical Sleep Health


Certifications and Licenses Required:


  • Current New Jersey State License as a Polysomnographic Technologist and/or Respiratory Therapist

  • Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification


Scheduling Requirements:


  • Shift working, three nights a week 6:30pm-7am

  • Rotating shifts and weekends

  • Full-Time (FT)


Essential Functions:


  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues

  • Perform routine equipment care and maintenance and inventory evaluation

  • Follow HIPAA and privacy policies

  • Respond to sleep patients procedural-related inquiries by providing appropriate education utilizing sleep center specific protocols

  • Adhere to sleep center policies and procedures

  • Comply with professional standards of conduct

  • Assist the medical director, clinical director and/or manager in all aspects of sleep center operations

  • Performs sleep studies for pediatric patients, starting at 18 months and older, adult, and geriatric patients

  • Demonstrates proper placement of leads and wires with 10-20 setup

  • Maintains, operates, and troubleshoots all sleep equipment, as well as pulse oximetry, transcutaneous monitoring, end-tidal CO2 monitoring, and CPAP, BIPAP devices during the acquisition of the sleep study

  • Titrates CPAP/BIPAP according to AASM guidelines

  • Documents technician notes every half hour

  • Scores sleep study according to AASM guidelines

  • Responds to patient requests for information

  • Completes all charges

  • Coordinates dictation, transcription, final report, archiving, filing, and mailing process for sleep studies

  • Maintains inventory control

  • Completes yearly CME requirements

  • Participates in Performance Improvement

  • Achieves inter-scoring reliability equal or greater than 85 percent

  • Performs clerical work as needed, including scheduling, insurance authorization, calling patients to follow-up
