Job Title: Polysomnographic Technologist

Job Overview:

Performs standard and complex polysomnographic recordings and monitors physiological phenomena throughout such procedures. Administers oxygen and nasal continuous positive airway pressure and employs ventilatory assist devices in accordance with established protocols. Performs special procedures such as multiple sleep latency testing.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT).
• Additional experience as an EEG Technician or Certified Respiratory Therapist.
• BLS Certification required.
• One to three years previous experience in hospital-based or freestanding Sleep Center.
• Scoring experience required.
• Knowledge of AASM Standards.

Scheduling Requirements:

• Per Diem
• Day shift
• Every other weekend required

Essential Functions:

• Adheres to all protocols, policies, and procedures per the Department Policy and Procedure Manual.
• Assesses and interprets patient status to identify and provide appropriate care.
• Assists in orientation of new staff and students; provides in-service to physicians, nurses, and clinical staff.
• Attends at least 50% of scheduled staff meetings.
• Documents therapy and patient records accurately.
• Performs physiologic calibrations and troubleshooting procedures.
• Selects appropriate montages based on protocol.
• Performs patient setup, lead placement, and physiologic calibrations for high-quality tests.
• Uses CPAP and oxygen equipment appropriately for different age groups, ensuring safety and proper operation.
• Evaluates therapy effectiveness and suggests care plan modifications.
• Performs scoring according to AASM Standards.
• Verifies physician orders and patient identity before therapy.
