Qualifications

  • Boarded by the BRPT (Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists).
  • Accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with emphasis in polysomnography (CAAHEP preferred).
  • OR completion of a polysomnography program of at least one year with state licensed and/or nationally accredited (CAAHEP preferred) facility.
  • OR A-STEP accredited program leading to a polysomnography certificate.
  • OR minimum six months work experience as a Polysomnographic Trainee.
  • Minimum one year polysomnographic technology experience (preferred).
  • CPR required.

A Polysomnographic Technician can provide oversight of a Polysomnographic Trainee. This is a technical position functioning independently with limited supervision. Work situations require extensive knowledge and the application of advanced expertise in the field of sleep disorders, and sound clinical judgments, actions, and decision making regarding unusual patient behavior, i.e. seizure activity, life threatening cardiac and respiratory abnormalities. Internal contacts are basically within the work group but may include patient care staff and management throughout the Medical Center. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education.
