Job summary

Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva, NC is seeking a PRN Respiratory Therapist specializing in polysomnography to join our sleep care team. The role focuses on preparing patients for sleep studies, conducting tests, scoring results, and educating families about sleep disorders and treatment options.

The ideal candidate is BRPT-certified with BLS and can work nights in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with physicians and care teams to improve patient outcomes and the overall sleep program.

Qualifications

• BRPT-certified polysomnographic technologist required.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to work in a high-stress environment and adapt quickly.

Responsibilities

• Set up and prepare equipment for sleep tests.
• Interview patient to identify sleep disorder issues and explain procedures.
• Perform sleep testing and additional testing as needed.
• Score, interpret, and report sleep study results.
• Educate patients about results and available resources.
• Maintain and calibrate sleep testing equipment.
• Identify and report needed repairs and equipment shortages.

How You'll Contribute

A Polysomnographic Tech who excels in this role:

• Prepares for the arrival of the patient by setting up and preparing the equipment for the ordered test.
• Interviews patient to determine sleep disorder issues and to explain testing procedures.
• Performs testing and any additional testing required for sleep disorder that is noted.
• Scores, interprets, and reports results of sleep studies.
• Educates patients about test results, sleep disorders, community support groups, and available resources.
• Prepares, calibrates, repairs, and maintains equipment required for testing.
• Determines and reports needed repairs and replacements.
• Maintains proper supplies to care for patients.

What We're Looking For

Applicants should be a registered Polysomnographic Technologist - valid and current on Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT). Additional requirements include

• Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
