Job summary

Rome Health is seeking a Polysomnographer to perform overnight sleep studies for the diagnosis of sleep disorders in Rome, NY. The role includes patient preparation, sensor application, monitoring, data scoring, and reporting to physicians. CPAP/BiPAP titration may be performed and a focus on patient safety is essential.

Required NYS Respiratory Therapist licensure and BLS; 1 year sleep lab experience preferred. Willingness to pursue RPSGT within one year of hire is expected.

Qualifications

• Licensed professional in NY (RRT/RN/LPN/Polysomnographer).
• Willing to become RPSGT within 12 months of hire.
• 1 year sleep lab experience preferred but not mandatory.
• NYS RT Licensure and BLS required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for overnight sleep studies and explain procedures.
• Apply and monitor sensors measuring EEG, EOG, EMG, ECG, respiration, oxygen, and movements.
• Monitor patients during studies and recognize abnormal events.
• Operate polysomnography and related sleep-monitoring equipment.
• Troubleshoot equipment or signal problems as they arise.
• Document and score sleep-study data per established guidelines.
• Perform or assist CPAP/BiPAP titration when ordered.
• Maintain patient safety and comfort during the study.
• Prepare accurate reports for physicians or sleep specialists.

Job description

The Polysomnographer will perform sleep studies to diagnose sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, and restless legs syndrome.

Main Duties

• Prepare patients for overnight sleep studies.
• Explain the sleep-study procedure and answer patient questions.
• Apply and monitor sensors/electrodes that measure:
  • Brain activity (EEG)
  • Eye movements (EOG)
  • Muscle activity (EMG)
  • Heart activity (ECG)
  • Breathing and oxygen levels
  • Body movements and sleep position
• Monitor patients throughout the night and recognize abnormal events.
• Operate polysomnography and related sleep-monitoring equipment.
• Troubleshoot equipment or signal problems.
• Document and score sleep-study data according to established guidelines.
• Perform or assist with CPAP/BiPAP titration when ordered.
• Maintain patient safety and comfort during the study.
• Prepare accurate reports/data for physicians or sleep specialists.

Education: Licensed Professional - RRT/RN/LPN/ Polysomnographer - willingness to become RPSGT with in one year of date of hire.

Experience: 1 year experience in a Sleep Lab preferred but not mandatory.

Certificate: NYS RT Licensure - BLS required.
