Job summary

Children’s Wisconsin is seeking a Polysom Technician III - RCP to deliver comprehensive sleep lab services, including polysomnography, diagnostics, and patient care under supervision at the Milwaukee main hospital.

Required: Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy, Wisconsin RCP license, BLS, and RPSGT or RRT certification within 2 years. Schedule: 3-12 hour shifts, 6:30 pm–7:00 am; no holidays. $5,000 sign-on bonus for external candidates.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in respiratory therapy required.
  • RPSGT or RRT certification within 2 years of hire.
  • Current Wisconsin RCP licensure and BLS required.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor patients and score polysomnograms according to protocols.
  • Perform diagnostics such as polysomnograms and cardio-pulmonary tracings.
  • Assist with PAP titration and mask fitting as needed.
  • Maintain sleep lab equipment and ensure safety standards.

The Polysom Technician III - RCP

This role provides comprehensive diagnostic and treatment procedures within the space of the Sleep Lab (under the direction of the Ambulatory Manager and Medical Director). This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services, patient care and education. It may also include caring for patients requiring respiratory therapy not limited to medication administration and care of Trach/Vent patients.

$5,000 Sign-on Bonus (External candidates)

Hours: 6:30 pm - 7:00 am

Schedule: 3 - 12 hour shifts per week

No Holidays

Onsite - Milwaukee main hospital

Education and Licensure

Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy required

Current licensure by the State of Wisconsin as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) required.

Current CPR certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required.

AND RPSGT-Registered Polysomnographic Technician - Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists within 2 Years OR RRT-Registered Respiratory Therapist - The National Board for Respiratory Care within 2 Years

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Analytical skills are necessary to resolve complex clinical problems relating to the integration of anatomy and physiology into sleep/wake pathology and patient safety and welfare.
  • Possess adequate time management skills.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills are sufficient to interact with interdisciplinary health team members and consumers.
  • Able to work flexible hours to meet patient and department needs.
  • Ability to sit and monitor patients while scoring polysomnograms for several hours.
Essential Functions
  • Understand and satisfies the needs of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult patient and families regarding their growth and development process.
  • Evaluates and identifies needs prior to and during testing and initiates appropriate action.
  • Safely initiates, performs and maintains competency in the following areas: Diagnostics such as Polysomnograms, Cardio-pulmonary tracings, and blood draws.
  • Titration and monitoring of positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy.
  • Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and adjust if necessary.
  • Perform positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.
  • Explain pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient and family.
  • Downloads, analyzes and records/scores data per AASM and lab standards and contacts on-call physician as needed.
  • Cleans and assembles sleep lab equipment according to protocol.
  • Ensures departmental equipment is maintained according to manufacturers and other regulatory agency specifications and utilizes resources appropriately.
  • Assists with maintaining inventory and supplies within the sleep lab and being fiscally responsible.

$5,000 Sign-on Bonus (External candidates)

$2500.00 after successful completion of the introductory period

$2500.00 after 6 months of successful performance
