Respiratory Therapist Job Description

As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing respiratory care to children in various settings. If you thrive in a fast‑paced, team-oriented setting and have a passion for pediatric care, this is your chance to make a real difference one breath at a time.

Respiratory Therapist Key Responsibilities

• Provide respiratory care to pediatric patients in various settings.
• Administer respiratory therapy treatments and procedures.
• Monitor and evaluate patient responses to therapy.
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Educate patients and families on respiratory care and management.
• Apply scientific knowledge, technical expertise, and theory to practical clinical problems.
• Provide therapeutic, diagnostic, consultative, and supportive services for neonatal through adult patients and their families.
• Actively participate in resuscitative and emergent situations.
• Function within professional and hospital standards.

Respiratory Therapist Qualifications

• Requires a valid Wisconsin Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license.
• Requires CRT. RRT strongly preferred before start for experienced RCPs and/or required within 6 months.
• Current CPR certification – Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required.
• Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification – American Heart Association training is required within 6 months.
• Education – requires completion of a respiratory therapy program.
• No pediatric work experience is required.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with caregivers, colleagues, medical staff, and community partners.

Certifications/Licenses

BLS‑Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider – American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council, License Respiratory Care Practitioner (28) – State of Wisconsin, PALS‑Pediatric Advanced Life Support – American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council, RRT‑Registered Respiratory Therapist – The National Board for Respiratory Care
