Job summary

PPG Industries (UK) Limited is seeking a Polymer Film Research Expert in the Photochromics Group at the Monroeville Business and Technology Center to advance polymer science, films and coatings. The role focuses on formulations and development of adhesive, optical coatings, films, laminates and devices.

You will design experiments, analyze structure-property relationships, collaborate with teams and external partners, and travel up to 10% to advance product milestones.

Qualifications

• PhD in polymer chemistry, materials science, or related field.
• Effective collaborator within multi-functional teams.
• Creative hands-on scientist.
• Strong analytical and math skills.
• Self-starter in a team environment.
• Knowledge of polymer science, film, adhesion, and devices.
• Familiarity with organic chromophores, optics and conductive materials a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop new products through polymeric materials design, adhesives preparation, application, and testing.
• Elucidate structure-property relationships.
• Source and screen new film and resin materials.
• Characterize optical and adhesive properties.
• Maintain a safe working environment and be an advocate for lab safety.
• Apply efficient experimental design and statistical data analysis to accelerate product development.
• Collaborate with team members and external partners.
• Achieve project milestones promptly.
• Clearly communicate results through presentations and written reports.
• Pursue intellectual property protection for new technologies.
• Travel up to 10%.
