Reedley College is seeking a Political Science Instructor for a part-time faculty pool. The position includes teaching in a variety of settings and may require evening, weekend, online, or off-campus large-group instruction as needed.

Minimum qualifications include a Master’s in political science, government, or international relations, or related combinations; a California Community College credential is also acceptable.

• Bachelor’s in any of the above and master’s in economics, history, public administration, social science, sociology, ethnic studies, JD or LL.B.
• Valid California Community College credential or equivalency in education/experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in Political Science in various settings and times, including evenings/weekends/online or off-campus large-group instruction.
• Maintain professional conduct and stay current in teaching Political Science.
• Teach courses in American Government and other political science courses; evening/weekend/large-group instruction as needed.
• Use diverse pedagogies and technology across face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats.
• Communicate effectively with students and adhere to curriculum outlines.
• Evaluate student progress per course objectives and maintain syllabi and records.

Political Science Instructor (Reedley College) – Part‑Time Faculty Pool

This is a part‑time position. No mandatory closing date; applications accepted until the position(s) are filled. Start dates may vary.

Essential Functions of the Position

The ideal candidate will share Reedley College’s commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. As of fall 2017, we enroll over 10,000 students, of which 71% are Latinx; 1% Filipino; 3% Asian; 2% African American; 19% White; and 2% multiracial. RC is a Hispanic‑Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well‑being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to curriculum responsive to the students it serves.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in Political Science in a variety of settings and timings, including evening and/or weekend and online or off‑campus large‑group instruction as needed.
• Maintain professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the position and stay current in teaching Political Science.
• Teach courses in American Government (including Canadian state and local politics); teach other political science courses; teach evening and/or weekend classes and large‑group instruction classes as needed.
• Use a variety of pedagogies and integrate a wide range of instructional delivery systems, including innovative and creative uses of technology for face‑to‑face, online, and/or hybrid formats.
• Communicate effectively with students.
• Use effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter and adhere to the institutionally approved curriculum course outlines.
• Evaluate student progress through tests and examinations, written assignments, oral responses, etc. in keeping with course objectives.
• Provide course syllabi to students.
• Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
• Turn in all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
• Otherwise fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s in political science, government, or international relations.
• OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND master’s in economics, history, public administration, social science, sociology, any ethnic studies, JD or LL.B.
• OR A valid California Community College credential.
• OR Equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications

• A master’s degree in political science.
• Breadth of teaching experience in political science.
• Experience teaching at the post‑secondary level.
• Experience teaching courses in legal and judicial reasoning.
• Experience in identifying and remediating knowledge and skills deficiencies to improve student learning outcomes.
• Related work and professional experience.
• Experience in computer assisted instruction and other instructional technologies.
• Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
• Ability to develop new and current curriculum and focus on student learning outcomes to improve student learning.
• Recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes.
• Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students.
• Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom.
• Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth.
• Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Salary and Benefits

Starting rates are $45.49 – $61.78 for lecture and $38.67 – $52.55 for lab. Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
