Political Science Instructor, Part-time Adjunct Pool, Inmate Education Program Opportunity

Salary: $67.00 per hour. Hourly rate may vary based on assignment type and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula.

Job Type: Temporary – Adjuncts

Location: CC - East Kern, Edwards/California City/Tehachapi (Rising Scholars), CA

Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction in a full range of Political Science courses.
  • Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Science department.
  • Maintain subject matter currency, develop and revise curriculum, and use computer and multimedia technology.
  • Engage collegially in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.
  • Use multiple teaching methodologies and teach at other campus sites, including day, evening, or weekend classes, large classes, distance learning classes, and classes for incarcerated students.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Political Science, Government, or International Relations.
  • OR – Bachelor’s degree in any of the above fields AND a Master’s degree in Economics, History, Public Administration, Social Science, Sociology, ethnic studies, JD, or LL.B.
  • OR – Possession of a valid credential authorizing full‑time teaching of Political Science at the California Community College level, or equivalent qualifications.
  • AND – Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population.
  • Work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
  • Develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities.
  • Participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain subject‑matter currency.
  • Assess student learning outcomes.
  • Have knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program.
  • Commit to the California community college mission.
