Job summary

Anthropic is seeking a policy generalist to join the Strategic Advisory team within the Public Policy group in San Francisco. You will develop and maintain our policy research strategy and lead the research behind it to strengthen Anthropic's policy influence in Washington and globally.

You'll turn research into analysis, build partnerships with academics and think tanks, and manage external studies. You will run cross-functional processes to advance evidence-backed positions and support

Qualifications

• Track record of driving cross-functional projects to a decision.
• Experience as a policy generalist across several issue areas.
• Ability to scope a research question and work with economists, academics and experts to answer it.
• Excellent writing: turn complex material into clear memos, briefings and talking points.
• Understanding of how a company's commercial interests and policy positions fit together.
• Strong organization and project management, including handling multiple projects.
• Independent work style with ownership of problems and next steps.
• Collaborative, low-ego approach and willingness to share credit.
• Interest in AI policy and alignment with Anthropic's mission.

Responsibilities

• Run policy development processes from open question to agreed position: frame the question, bring in experts, work through disagreements, and reach a decision.
• Develop research plans for priority issue areas: what evidence would strengthen or test a position and what data can show.
• Turn research findings into material policymakers can use.
• Manage commissioned research from scoping through publication and build partnerships with outside academics and think tanks.
• Own economic impact reports and the narratives that go with them for markets worldwide.
• Anticipate emerging policy issues and develop perspectives and materials in advance.
• Scale the team's support for international markets by adapting strategies for different governments.
• Draft briefings, talking points and other materials on tight timelines.
