Job summary

The Grassroot Institute of Hawaii seeks a policy intern to work with the director of policy to research and write policy papers, commentaries or articles. You may discuss this research with local and national media, community groups, and lawmakers.

Primary duties include researching topics, supporting staff with tasks and events, and communicating findings to internal teams. The role may require on-site presence in Honolulu with some remote work options.

Qualifications

• The ability to write well-structured, accurate and readable prose.
• The ability to connect with people in the community who can help with the research.
• The ability to reliably commute to the institute’s main office in downtown Honolulu. This role is open to remote work for the right candidate, but prefers on site.

Responsibilities

• Conduct general or detailed research as required.
• Assist Institute staff with tasks, projects and events.
• Revise or update research as requested by editorial staff.
• Represent the institute at state and national conferences, as needed.
• Participate in staff calls and leadership team meetings.
• Maintain excellent communication and foster a collaborative working environment with all departments, offices and customers.
• Maintain regular attendance and timeliness.
