Job summary

The Grassroot Institute of Hawaii is looking for a policy intern to work with the director of policy to research and write policy papers, commentaries or articles. You may also present research to local and national media, community groups, and lawmakers in Hawaii.

The role requires strong writing, research, and communication skills, with a willingness to travel to conferences. Based in downtown Honolulu, partial remote work may be considered for the right candidate, with a preference for

Qualifications

• Ability to write well-structured, accurate and readable prose.
• Ability to connect with people in the community who can help with the research.
• Strong research and policy analysis skills.
• Comfort presenting research to media and policymakers.

Responsibilities

• Research and write policy papers, commentaries or articles.
• Discuss and defend research with local and national media, community groups, and lawmakers.
• Conduct general or detailed policy research as required.
• Assist staff with tasks, projects and events.
• Revise or update research as requested by editorial staff.
• Represent the institute at state and national conferences, as needed.
• Participate in staff calls and leadership team meetings.
• Maintain excellent communication and foster collaboration across departments.
