Job summary

The Department of State Lands in Salem invites applications for the Legislative Affairs and Policy Internship. This part-time, hybrid internship offers flexible 15–38 hours per week and may require occasional in-office meetings in Salem.

You will assist with policy research, legislative tracking, and compiling briefing materials, with mentoring and an emphasis on environmental and natural resources issues. Candidates with political science or public policy backgrounds are encouraged to apply;

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or current half-time graduate student.
• Academic backgrounds in political science, public policy, law, English, communications, or related fields encouraged.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Gain exposure to state and federal legislative processes.
• Learn how public agencies monitor and respond to policy developments.
• Develop skills in policy research, legislative tracking, government relations, and public-sector administration.
• Conduct background research on legislative, regulatory, and public policy topics relevant to the Department.
• Monitor and track state and federal legislation, agency actions, and policy developments.
• Review legislative committee agendas and materials to identify topics of interest.
• Assist in maintaining calendars of deadlines, hearings, and policy events.
• Gather publicly available information related to legislative and regulatory activities.
• Prepare presentations, handouts, briefing packets, and meeting materials.
