Job summary

Qualifications

• Master's degree or bachelor's degree with the requisite experience in organizational development, nonprofit management, public administration/planning or comparable sector.
• 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in government, organizational/program development or nonprofit management.
• Experience with and knowledge of the legislative and policy process and operations at state and local level
• Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams and achieve results within timeline and financial parameters.
• Strong relationship-building skills, including the demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive connections and advance priority interests and goals.
• Excellent judgment and integrity, ability to make strategic decisions in complicated situations, seeking guidance and input when appropriate.
• Strong facilitation skills to engage a broad group of diverse stakeholders from grassroots to leadership levels.
• Ability to develop and use data and analysis to inform strategy and decisions.
• Position requires the successful candidate to be able to travel, including out of town and state, for appropriate meetings.

Responsibilities

• Government Relations - Relationship Management: Serve as a consistent point of contact for legislators and government offices at federal, state and local levels.
• Government Relations - Advocacy: Monitor legislative, funding and regulatory developments and develop recommendations and advocacy strategies.
• Community Affairs - Relationship Management: Provide oversight and manage the coordination of key liaisonships between community organizations and UM-Flint.
• Community Affairs - Programming: Support and lead university-wide programs and partnerships engaging neighborhood and community organizations.
• Internal Steward: Proactively support internal and external community connections and advisory structures.
