Job summary

Advocacy Rising in Denver seeks a Senior Associate to lead state and local policy campaigns, working directly with senior clients and coalition leaders to move strategy into action.

You will independently manage engagements, build coalitions, and guide multi-state campaigns from research through legislative execution, shaping how the firm approaches advocacy. Strong judgment, coalition leadership, and client management are essential to advance meaningful policy change.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in state or local legislative advocacy, public policy, or closely related work.
• Ability to assess political conditions, identify viable policy pathways, and adapt strategy based on dynamics.
• Experience building and leading coalitions or multi-stakeholder bodies, including facilitation of senior stakeholders.
• Experience independently managing senior organizational leaders, funders, coalition leaders, elected officials, or other high-level stakeholders.
• Ability to lead multiple complex campaigns with strong strategic attention and timely delivery.
• Strong policy analysis, political judgment, and written communication skills, including translating complex information into clear recommendations.
• Commitment to public-interest advocacy and missions of nonprofit/philanthropic organizations.

Responsibilities

• Lead Advocacy Rising's Policy Campaign Engine across multiple states/localities.
• Maintain ownership of campaign strategy, timelines, deliverables, client relationships, and outcomes.
• Assess campaign conditions and recommend strategy adjustments across engagements.
• Conduct policy and advocacy research on legislative, executive, administrative developments relevant to each engagement.
• Identify information required to determine viable policy pathways and readiness to advance.
• Translate research findings into actionable recommendations for policy direction and coalition structure.
• Build coalition leadership and governance structures, recruit organizations, and facilitate executive committee meetings.
• Coordinate with coalition partners on strategy, engagement, and decision-making processes.
• Prepare and guide campaign activities, hearings, sign-on letters, and public communications.
• Deliver post-campaign assessments identifying outcomes, barriers, and lessons.
