The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is a key part of the City’s criminal justice reform efforts, focusing on reducing jail populations while maintaining public safety. The DOC manages facilities across the five boroughs with over 7,500 staff, ensuring safety and supporting re-entry programs.

The department seeks a Policy Analyst for the Policy and Procedures Unit (PPU) within the Strategic Initiatives Division. The PPU develops and revises directives and procedures to support reform, modernization, and operational goals. The role involves research, writing, analysis, and collaboration with various stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Drafting and revising departmental directives and procedures.
  • Researching laws, regulations, and best practices to inform policy development.
  • Identifying issues in existing policies and proposing revisions.
  • Coordinating policy reviews with stakeholders and managing feedback.
  • Preparing reports, updates, and presentations for leadership.
  • Maintaining policy documentation and supporting audits and compliance reviews.
  • Developing expertise in correctional practices and reform trends.
  • Contributing to special projects and policy improvements.
Preferred Skills:
  • Strong research, analytical, and writing skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience in policy development and process improvement.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Problem-solving, adaptability, and sound judgment.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Baccalaureate degree and two years of relevant community work, or
  • High school diploma and six years of relevant experience, or
  • Equivalent education/experience with at least one year of relevant experience.
