New York City’s Mayor, Eric Adams, is head of the executive branch of New York City's government. Mayor Adams has served the people of New York City as an NYPD officer, State Senator, and Brooklyn Borough President. The Adams’ Administration is leading the fight to make New York City’s economy stronger, reduce inequality, improve public safety, and build a stronger, healthier city that delivers for all New Yorkers. As an agency, we value fairness, helpfulness, transparency, leadership and build our teams around these values.

The Office works across city agencies, including the Department of Education, Department of Corrections, Department of Social Services, The Department of the Aging, and several others to develop, and advance innovative food policy. The Office is critical to integrating an equity frame into food policy priorities and solutions. • Creating partnerships with advocates, nonprofit and community organizations, academic institutions, and private industry to further carry out its mission.

The Policy Analyst will report to Senior Management and will assist with tasks for a portfolio of projects, initiatives, and/or policy proposals related to the Office’s strategic priorities, including but not limited to nutrition, food access, economic development, sustainability, and procurement. Additionally, Policy Analyst will help the team stay up-to-date on city, state, and national food policy and market trends to determine their impact the various aspects of the City’s food system.

The Mayor’s Office of Food Policy is recruiting for one (1) position Community Coordinator to function as a Policy Analyst, who will:

  • Support Policy Advisors and Senior Management in project management and interagency coordination with multiple City agencies and external stakeholders (including non-profit organizations, community organizations, foundations, advocacy organizations) to pursue initiatives, manage goals and timelines, review interagency work products, and coordinate communications and engagement strategies, assist the Policy team to ensure the execution of key initiatives, and maintain positive and efficient relationships in team projects.
  • Under guidance of senior leadership, conduct research and data analysis as needed to inform policy briefs and recommendations.
  • As needed, assist in the generation of policy briefings and project-related documents including project work plans, meeting agendas, minutes, presentations, and roles and responsibilities documents.
  • Contribute to the robust reporting, tracking, risk identification and appropriate synthesis of food policy issues for the Office staff, City Hall, and other key staff as required.
  • Assist in the tracking of communications and legislative affairs relating to urban food policy including health and nutrition, food businesses including urban agriculture businesses and workforce development, including working with multiple agencies’ communications and intergovernmental affairs staff to track city, state, and federal announcements and legislation affecting New York City food policy; assist in the preparation of testimony for City council hearings; track drafting of public statements and coordinate with coalitions for content, as necessary.
