United Way of New York City is seeking a Director of Advocacy & Policy to lead policy, advocacy, research, and government relations initiatives in New York. The role reports to the AVP and collaborates across departments to advance equitable outcomes for New Yorkers.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) and 5+ years in public policy or related fields, with strong writing, research, and relationship-building skills. Hybrid work schedule offered.

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
• Five+ years of progressively responsible experience in public policy, advocacy, government relations, or legislative affairs.
• Working knowledge of New York City and New York State legislative and budget processes.
• Ability to analyze legislation, budgets, and policy issues and communicate implications clearly.
• Strong research, writing, presentation, and project management skills.
• Experience coordinating advocacy initiatives and maintaining external partnerships.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and collaborate across departments.

Aufgaben

• Implement assigned city, state, and federal policy and advocacy initiatives.
• Monitor legislation, budgets, and regulations; assess implications for UWNYC programs.
• Develop policy recommendations and draft organizational positions.
• Maintain relationships with elected officials, staff, agencies, and coalition partners.
• Coordinate legislative meetings, lobby days, and related advocacy activities.
• Represent UWNYC in meetings and communicate approved positions.
• Draft policy briefs, testimony, reports, memos, and talking points.
• Collaborate with data and program colleagues to assess policy impacts.
