The 911 Center operates 24/7/365, is staffed by 11 Emergency Communications Officers (ECO), and fields approximately 95,000 calls annually.

Qualifications

High School diploma and sufficient experience to demonstrate ability to work under pressure. Additional Education and Experience will be necessary for progressive steps (Journey and Advanced). Requires certification as a Division of Criminal Information computer operator or the ability to achieve certification within 45 days of employment. May require Basic Telecommunicator Certification in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Minimum Experience/Education
Other Required Qualifications	Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience working with a PC and be very comfortable working with a keyboard and data entry. Must be able to multi-task. Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications	Experience in answering 911 emergency and public safety calls. Good computer and typing skills. Background in public safety is helpful.
Required License or Certification	Certification as a Division of Criminal Information computer operator or the ability to achieve certification within 120 days of employment. Basic Telecommunicator Certification in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within 6 months of employment. Must complete Communications Training Officer Course and obtain the certification
