Job summary

Orleans Levee District seeks a Police Sergeant to provide full police services, supervise officers, and ensure safety across the district's levee and flood protection assets in the New Orleans area.

The role supervises officers on a watch, enforces federal, state and local laws, and coordinates with higher-level police officials. Position may require POST certification and on-call duties during emergencies.

Qualifications

  • Three years of law enforcement experience.
  • Experience substitution: 30 semester hours earned substitutes for one year; max 60 semester hours substitutes for two years.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Current Louisiana driver's license may be required.
  • Possession of POST certification may be required.
  • Conviction of a felony or being indicted disqualifies the applicant.

Responsibilities

  • Protects life and property through patrols, crime prevention, investigation and emergency responses.
  • Inspects and reports conditions of levees, floodwalls, gates, pumps and related components.
  • Responds to complaints, investigates disturbances and intervenes to restore order when necessary.
  • Empowered to make arrests, collects evidence, and completes related reports.
  • Assigns patrol duties and maintains shift records and logs.
  • Escorts SLFPA-E staff and equipment, ensuring access control and security during flood protection operations.
