Job summary

The Orleans Levee District in Louisiana seeks a Police Sergeant to provide full police services, enforce laws, and supervise Officers on a watch. The role covers on-foot and vehicle patrols within the district’s jurisdiction, coordinating with SLFPA-E partners to protect residents and property.

Responsibilities include inspecting levee infrastructure, investigating disturbances, making arrests when needed, and maintaining accurate reports.

Qualifications

• Three years of law enforcement experience.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
• POST certification may be required.
• Felony conviction or indictment disqualifies.

Responsibilities

• Protects life and property with emphasis on law enforcement, crime prevention, investigation and emergency response.
• Inspects and reports on levee and floodgate infrastructure and related facilities.
• Responds to complaints and investigates disturbances, intervening to restore order as needed.
• Makes arrests when necessary; interviews witnesses and preserves evidence; transports offenders and completes reports.
• Assigns patrol duties and maintains records for shift review by supervision.
• Handles complaints regarding subordinates and relays information to supervisors for action.
• Escorts SLFPA-E staff/equipment and secures areas during emergencies or maintenance.
